So the underlying stock started at $100, dropped to $80,
and went back to $100, a 0% total return.
But the ETF started at $100, dropped to $80,
and only recovered to $84.
It permanently lost 16% of its net asset value in just two months.
Simply because of the path the stock took.
That is asymmetric risk in the exact worst possible direction.
You participate fully in the crashes,
but you lock yourself out of the recoveries.
